Congratulations are in order for Dagger Bishop. Dagger is a National College Match Finalist for Quest Bridge. In 2019 nearly 15,000 students applied for the Quest Bridge program. Less than 6,000 received the honor of becoming a finalist. We are so proud of Griffin and this amazing accomplishment.
Quest Bridge looks for academically stellar students who have demonstrated a level of academic achievement that meets the admissions standards of their college partners. Duke, Princeton, Rice and Yale are just a few of the leading colleges that work with Quest Bridge. Students that become finalists are often the first to attend college in their family and tend to exhibit strong personal character along with other qualifying factors. Griffin Parker Dagger Bishop, know that we are all cheering you on. If Griffin is selected, he will receive a full, four-year scholarship. Match day is December 2nd which can't come soon enough.
Since Dagger is being considered for some Ivy League schools, it's worth knowing that Ivy League schools are considered to be the most prestigious of all colleges in the United States. These schools are primarily located in the Northeastern part of the country. There are eight total colleges that are considered to be Ivy League. These schools are Brown, Harvard, Cornell, Princeton, Dartmouth, Yale, and Columbia universities and the University of Pennsylvania. Of all institutions of higher learning, these elite schools are considered to be the most outstanding and the most sought-after in terms of acceptance and graduation.
Why do we call them Ivy League schools? Well, it's hard to get a straight answer on this one, but the story with the most support comes from 1937. A reporter was rumored to have complained to his boss about having to write about those old “Ivy-covered” universities and in his article about the Columbia/Penn game coined the term “Ivy League. Originally, the Ivy League referred to the NCAA athletic conference for Division I sports. At the time, the elitism of these schools was really due to their prestige in the realm of sports like basketball. Now, they are more known for their academics.
